Can I just the Program? That Depends on What Bit OS You have..
I8kfanGUI V3.1 for 32 bit systems (1.61 MB)
I8kfanGUI V3.1 for Windows x64 systems (1.88 MB)
Yes the BIOS has a high temperature fan limit. Dell knows this and has
apparently decided not to deal with it. They say it's set below the
damage threshold. If you go to the dell site and use their forums you
will find this is true. Thay also recommend a program called:
I8kfanGUI.exe. It's a free program made by a third party (not dell).
You can use it to manually turn on your fan.
I have been using it for a couple years now, after shelling out the
money to get the fan fixed, which really wasn't broken in the 1st place.
You can set it to start with windows so you can "set it and forget it".
(It's late in the am here and infomercials are on in the background as I
type this.) You can choose to have it come on at half power or full
power. Check it out. Like I said it's a free program, and if you check
the dell forums you will see that dell techs recommend it.
